The newly-appointed School Council met and came up with a long list of suggestions to enhance our school and their experience at ABH. They then put these ideas to their classmates, who voted on their favourite ones. Together, the class councillors totted up the votes and settled on the three actions which are most important to pupils at our school. So, over the next term they plan to:

  • Improve our playtime offer, particularly sports available, by working closely with Play Leaders
  • Set up a system and rota for pupils to engage in litter picks in the local community
  • Work with Mr Pugh and Mr McGurk to give pupils the opportunity to help lead assemblies around our core values

Harvest

We have been thinking about our values of Thankfulness and Generosity.

Because it was Harvest, we wanted to share our good fortune with others. So, we had a collection for Morecambe Food Bank. The food was collected by the Food Bank Volunteers and has been distributed in the community. Here is what we collected:

The title of the event was Code Red for Climate and gave the children theopportunity to listen to speakers and discuss the conceptof climate change and how this is tackled around theworld. There were 22 schools in attendance and thechildren began the process of drawing up a Climate Charter for local schools. Our representatives were very well informed and took part enthusiastically. They will meet again in January.

Litter Pick

As part of our work with Surfers Against Sewage, we went on a litter pick around Warton. We were looking for litter and rubbish around the village so we could assess how much of a problem it was. We were surprised at how much we found and were especially shocked when we found a pair of old underpants. Yuck! We reported back to assembly about our pick and will use the information when we write to the local council about the problem. We are also going to run a competition to design a No Littering poster to put up around the village.

On Friday 19th November 2021, the School Council helped with the Children in Need appeal. We held a PJs and PE kit day and all of the staff and children joined in with Joe Wicks for his Big Workout. We had lots of fun and raised £115 for this great cause. Here we are on BBC North West Tonight - for the second year in a row!

Keep Warton Tidy Litter Poster Competition

Following our litter pick, we launched a poster competition to encourage people to keep Warton clean and tidy.

School Council Events      2020 - 2021

Last year, having meetings was difficult because of our Coronavirus bubbles but we were still able to work on ideas to make the school a great place and helping the children have their voices heard. All year the School Council were busy raising money for The BIG I.T. Drive and helping charities such as Children in Need, Food Bank and Pyjamarama.

At the end of the year, we collected a £1000 cheque from Wilsons the Housebuilders. This money was added to our BIG IT DRIVE which we have been working on alongside the PTA.

Before the Winter lockdown, the the children have raised an amazing £1620 by running the Super Hero Super Run.

The whole school dressed up as Super Heroes and ran around the school track. What an amazing effort and a great start to the BIG IT DRIVE 3.  We even got into the Lancaster Guardian for our efforts.

We held a Wear Yellow – Pudsey Pennies Day on November 13th. It was a great success and we raised £250 for Children in Need.

Some of our Year 2 stars were photographed by Mr Pugh in their splashes of yellow and the photo was shown on both North West Tonight and the main Children in Need show.

Well done everyone and thanks again for all the pennies!
