Class One and Class Two went to the Solway Aviation Museum in Carlisle today.  This was a nice way for Class 2 to recap on their learning about the history of flight, as well as learning even more about developments in aviation over the last 100 years.  The team were fantastic; so knowledgeable, helpful and super at explaining things in ways that were fun and interesting to our littlest learners! All of the children had a fantastic day and some would even love to return with their families another time!  The volunteers said the children from ABH were superbly behaved and clearly knew lots about flight already - well done Class 1 and 2!

We learnt how Mo Farah, Floella Benjamin and Laurie Cunningham had to fight prejudice to become icons of sport. Class 2 have learnt about Marcus Rashford and Nicola Adams and have written letters to them. Class 3 have been learning about the life of Walter Tull - the first man of colour to lead the army into battle. Class 4 - Our Mathieu Laca Art Gallery, by Mr McGurk

Date: 15th Jun 2023 @ 8:50pm

Over the last few weeks, Class 4 have been studying and exploring the art of Mathieu Laca, a Canadian artist, who uses colour and texture to paint people who inspire him. Whether this has been a scientist, artist or musician. He also ensures that his work represents their inspiration as well as their darker side.

The children have work exceptionally hard to produce their own portraits of people who inspire us, such as Rita Ora, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Marcus Rashford or Bob Ross.

I have been impressed by their focus, skill and how their abilities have developed as the imitated the style of this remarkable artist.

Enjoy their gallery!

Pupil Parliament, by Miss Hughes

Date: 25th Apr 2023 @ 5:00pm

Four pupils from Year 5 accompanied Miss Hughes to Lancaster and Morecambe College today, to take part in the local 'Pupil Parliament' event.

The focus at Pupil Parliament this year is equality, diversity and combatting discrimination.  The children learnt about the nine 'Protected Characteristics' of the Equality Act 2010 and how these are attributes that are protected by law; today's focus was racial equality.  They learnt about a time in history when this wasn't always the case, and about a little girl called Ruby Bridges, who contributed to the resegregation of American schools.  The children talked about how even the smallest of people can make the biggest difference, by standing up for what is right.  They discussed the importance of tolerance, respect and fairness, as well as standing up for others and using their voices to speak out when they see injustice.  They practised debating and speaking persuasively to a large audience of around 100 other children and almost 30 adults!

The children were a credit to the school and their families and came back informed and enthused, to educate their peers, speak up and make change. They are keen to share what they learnt in an assembly, help to make a display representing the protected characteristics and get involved in inviting visiting speakers to the school to widen our perspectives and teach us about other races, ethnicities and cultures.  We are very proud of our representatives - well done!

Well done everyone, what a fantastic effort.
